TH/E BEDSIDE SERIES: Stylist Jodie Barnes

    Interview
    Isabella Davey

Welcome to our second bedside series, where we are celebrating our friends through their most intimate and telling space: the bedside table. From well-worn novellas to classical tomes, cups of coffee and personal totems from afar: what we are keeping close in this time of introspection are signals of who we are and where we imagine ourselves to be.

Asking our friends what they are reading, what they are seeing, what they are thinking and what are they smelling first thing in the morning and last thing late at night, Timothy Han / Edition takes a look at how scent can impact our environments, surroundings and our homes in a global time of uncertainty and change.

For our second conversation, we spoke to English literature graduate and feted stylist Jodie Barnes. His unwavering eye landed him the role of fashion director at Fantastic Man magazine and earned him a reputation as one of the most indomitable stylists working today. His talent has been sought after by brands ranging from Hermes to Ferragamo and Adidas to Hussein Chalayan. Here Jodie tells us about his lockdown routine and why his Timothy Han / Edition On the Road candle takes him on a journey to Mexico.

What do you have on your bedside table?
An anglepoise lamp, a glass of water, a Biography of Rimbaud and a Timothy Han candle.

What are you reading right now and why?
The Biography of Rimbaud. I found it on the bookshelf and I m a fan of biographies and of course, it’s Him.

What TH/E candle do you have on your bedside table and why that particular scent from the range?
An ’On the Road’ candle - because if we can't be physically then we may as well dream.

What does TH/E candle remind you of?
This one strangely reminds me of Mexico.

What made you fall in love with TH/E's scents?
Each smell has a very specific character. Also, minimal design always helps.

What are you spending your time doing at home during lock down?
I’m currently organising the wardrobes. It’s a huge project. But there are times when I did nothing or too much. It’s sort of evolved.

What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Make coffee and feed Nicky, our cat.

What is the last thing you do at night?
    Plug my phone in.
